Yah I figured out the scoring system on NG is completly useless very quickly after I joined NG. You can actually view audio submissions sorted by date though. When you chose a genre, in the top right there are 3 options to sort by: Score, title and date. I havent even looked at the score page in some time now, I always click on the date option.
And most likely you can tell if your song is good if you don't have a high score (believe it or not). A few people on this site have jealous tendencies and will vote you down if they think you will pose a threat to their standing on the score charts. But sometimes if the artist sucks then the score will reflect that...
Reviews are golden though. If you take the time to review other people's art, they might do the same for you. Kinda like karma.

However, not all of the highest rated songs are actually any good. Mostly, they're just things that have been voted on once or twice that haven't even been in the portal for very long. Honestly, a lot of the good songs I've heard on here all have scores between 4 and 3, because they've had so many votes.
I also hate how people can have higher and lower voting powers, especially because the people with higher ones generally have no life and only get that kind of power by mindlessly voting on every submission they see. I think your voting power should DECREASE the more frequently you vote and then work its way up again over time.
I do value reviews a lot, when people give legitimate ones. Even when they don't, it's still much more than a vote, but sadly you can't sort submissions by their average review score, or even downloads. Seriously, you'd find so much better stuff if you could sort by downloads. Of course, that would mean new stuff would sink to the bottom, but if you were sorting by downloads, you'd probably be looking for more recognised works.
